In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across six countries and are growing fast.

How you'll help us achieve it
We are hiring a Communication Officer enthusiastic about crafting compelling narratives and excited about Wave's mission. In this role, you will join our Communications and Public Affairs team, reporting to the Public Relations & Press Lead. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the implementation of communication strategies at the country level, fostering collaborations with key stakeholders, and enhancing the company's positive brand perception. Join us in shaping impactful stories and driving our communication initiatives forward.
In this role, you’ll:
- Developing comprehensive communication plans that resonate with Wave's ethos.
- Strategically enhancing Wave's presence in Senegal through targeted communication channels.
- Managing the communications calendar for Senegal, ensuring timely and impactful messaging:
- Facilitating external communications and managing press inquiries with finesse.
- Orchestrating events to uphold Wave's brand integrity, including panel participation facilitation.
- Crafting educational corporate communication materials for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborating with the brand team to create compelling print and digital content for PR initiatives.
- Overseeing copywriting, editing, and proofreading tasks to maintain communication excellence.
- Planning and coordinating events for the Communications and External Affairs team in Senegal.

Requirements
- A degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related fields.
- Fluency in French and English is a must.
- The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial, with a focus on assessing excellence.
- A profound understanding of Senegal's social, economic, and cultural landscape, as well as its media environment and stakeholder management framework, is essential.
- Previous experience in financial services or a communications agency is preferred. Additional expertise in customer relationship management, public relations, risk mitigation, and press management would be advantageous.
