In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across six countries and are growing fast.

How you'll help us achieve it
Wave is now the largest financial institution in Senegal, with over 7 million users. And we're still in the early days of our product roadmap and potential impact on people's everyday lives.
We seek a methodical, detail-oriented AP Accountant with deep accounting and financial principles knowledge to join our team at The Gambia.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in maintaining efficient financial operations by ensuring a seamless account payable process by tracking and recording payments accurately, efficiently, and promptly.
In this role, you'll;
- Ensure that accounts payable functions are delivered effectively and efficiently.
- Review, update, and/or set up new policies/procedures/guidelines/workflows relating to staff business travel accountabilities, cash advances, reimbursements, etc.
- Ensure that invoices and staff reimbursements are posted accurately in SAGE Intacct.
- Ensure that all APs possess sufficient support documentation prior to payment per standard processes and procedures.
- Manage and reconcile cash, bank, and AP accounts. Reconciliations should be done monthly by the 10th.
- Perform monthly supplier reconciliations for at least the top 50 suppliers by value.
- Initiate fully approved payments into the company's online bank systems promptly for authorization.
- Raise and post journals relating to business operations expenses daily using the company's in-house online tools, e.g., the Liquidity tool, the expense tool, and the bank expense tool.
- Process and record monthly AP accruals as required from time to time. In any case, they should be processed no more than 5 working days after the end of the month.
- Liaise with the cash management and liquidity teams to reconcile issues between the Wave MoMo wallet balance and the SAGE Intacct operational bank accounts.
- Participate in monthly business cash operations forecasting.
- Any other duties assigned by the Assistant Financial Controller.

Requirements
- Bachelor's in accounting, finance, tax or ICPAU, ACCA (Level 2).
- Familiar with EFRIS.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in accounting/auditing/finance and with financial reporting requirements.
- Good computer skills, especially in Word and Excel.
- Experience in a multi-entity reporting environment
