Our mission
We're making Africa the first cashless continent.
In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across six countries and are growing fast.
Our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent and that's where you come in...
How you'll help us achieve it
We’re looking for someone analytical, curious, and independent, who will use their data expertise to figure out how to make projects more effective and accelerate Wave’s growth. This is not just a data analyst role – you will be expected to identify opportunities to improve processes and project manage work streams as you lead cross-team and cross-country initiatives.
In this role you’ll:
- Be embedded closely with our operations and product teams: derive insights from customer and merchant data, visualise data, and then work with the operations leads and product managers to improve user and business outcomes.
- Own every step of the analytics process – from gathering requirements from business stakeholders to shipping your solution to our stakeholders and sharing your findings with others. As a data analyst, this will also include navigating large data sets and carrying out extensive analysis.
- Support operational teams with the data that they need to make informed-decisions. You’ll work closely with operational teams to better understand what pain points they face in the field and how better data or data analysis could drive better decisions.
- Work from first principles to understand blockers then collaborate with product managers and operational teams to iterate on new processes. You’ll work in rapid iteration cycles, whereby you gather more feedback and improve the process.
- Be responsible for taking complex business needs and turning them into more narrow work streams that you project manage.
- Build data models and analyze operational data in order to draw conclusions that drive sustainable scaling up of operations
- Document key growth learnings from both the quantitative and qualitative analyses and align relevant teams on the same understanding
Key details
- Remote position and can work remotely from anywhere (with 2 hours of GMT) with reliable internet access
- You will be expected to travel ~20% of the time
- This is a permanent position
- Our salaries are competitive and calculated using a transparent formula. We run performance reviews twice a year and award bonuses to strong performers who have been with the company for more than 6 months
- We offer generous health insurance for yourself and your dependents
- We support working parents - we offer 26 weeks of parental leave for mothers and 4 weeks for fathers, in addition to subsidized child care when they return to work
Requirements
- 4+ years experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Product Analyst, Product Operations Analyst or similar.
- Strong SQL skills and expertise in manipulating and analyzing data
- Demonstrated experience owning projects independently to completion
- Experience working with operations teams
- Experience with data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, etc.)
- Strong analytical thinking and experience extracting and communicating insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluent in English. (Fluent in French is a bonus!)
You might be a good fit if
- Excel at turning vague business requirements into clear action items, and are fearless in pushing back on requests.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Have excellent focus, prioritizing your research and work using an iterative approach (you know when a project is good enough to stop, and you rarely get lost in details).
- Have excelled in owning projects that required extensive coordination with cross-functional teams.
- Enjoy creating data visualizations and dashboards that aid discovery using a variety of platforms.
- Can apply appropriate statistical models when needed.
- Are able to compellingly present your findings to technical and non-technical audiences and make proactive recommendations based on data.
- Are excited about working in a culturally diverse environment, helping teams across the organization to make the best use of data.
Our team
- We have a rapidly growing in-country team in Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, The Gambia, and Uganda, plus remote team members spread across the world.

- We raised the largest Series A in Africa in 2021. Our world-class investors, include Founders Fund, Sequoia Heritage, Stripe, Ribbit Capital, Y Combinator, and Partech Africa.
- We are on Y Combinator's top companies by revenue.
