In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across six countries and are growing fast.

How you'll help us achieve it
Wave is now the largest financial institution in Senegal, with over 7 million users. And we’re still in the early days of our product roadmap and potential impact on people’s everyday lives.
We are seeking an Internal Control Officer to join Wave’s Internal Control team. You will participate in identifying Wave's exposure to all types of risks and implementing risk mitigation mechanisms.
Reporting to the Internal Control Lead, you'll be responsible for helping the organization take controlled risks, define, deploy, and monitor a risk management system, and propose optimized processing solutions to help top management make strategic decisions.
The Internal Control Officer will work closely with several internal stakeholders to implement specific controls and escalate any rising risks.
In this role, you'll;
- Identify and evaluate risks (activities, processes, information systems, production tools, external events, etc.)
- Implement the risk management policy.
- Assist in disseminating an adequate risk culture.
- Do periodic reporting on risk management.
- Identify and execute controls on any process across the organization (operations, procurement, fraud, finance, people, marketing, etc.).
- Carry out preventive and detective controls across the organization
- Monitor internal mechanisms to report, investigate, and escalate risk issues.
- Anticipate changes in risk trends and their effects on the organization.
- Take on other duties that may be assigned to you based on the business requirement.

- Location: You'll work from our office in Abidjan.
- You must have work authorization in Côte d’Ivoire.
- This is a permanent position.

Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in internal control (risk management, permanent control, or internal audit).
- Have excellent analytical skills and a taste for in-depth technical investigation.
- Fluent in French and English.
- Result-driven with a “Get it done” mindset.
- Emotional intelligence and cultural intelligence.
- Have written and oral communication and presentation skills, including the ability to convince and influence a wide range of partners at all levels.
- Experience in Mobile Money or the financial sector will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of fraud and/or compliance will also be an added advantage.
- Have worked for an international company, or have worked internationally
